Real Estate Agents
Why Become a Member?
By obtaining your
real estate license you are not necessarily
classified as a REALTOR®. The term REALTOR®,
REALTOR-ASSOCIATE ®, and REALTORS ®, is an
officially registered trademark of the National
Association of REALTORS®.
Being a member of
the Hattiesburg Area Association of REALTORS®
means that you have agreed to subscribe to a
strict Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
This Code pledges the REALTOR® to the fair
treatment of sellers and buyers.
Since 1916, when the
unique term REALTOR ® was first "coined" or
"invented", the public has come to recognize
those who use the MARKS as Members of the
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS ®.
When a Buyer or
Seller begins a search to buy or sell a home,
they should know that there is a difference
between a real estate agent and a REALTOR®.
Unlike a Real Estate Agent, a REALTOR® has
committed themselves as providers of real
estate-related services consistent with the Code
of Ethics and the highest standards of
professionalism, integrity and competence.
In addition to
having a license to sell real estate, a REALTOR®
is a member of a Professional Trade Association
- in our case, the Hattiesburg Area Association
of REALTORS® (HAAR), Mississippi Association of
REALTORS® (MAR), and the National Association of
REALTORS® (NAR). The trade associations’ work to
enhance property values and work closely with
policy makers at all levels to protect the
rights of private property owners.
